This exceptionally rare vintage one-owner 1959 Philips radio set is a collectible acquired from a wealthy estate. Although operational, restoration should be performed by an experienced professional as doing so may impact its originality and value. Continental version serial number 43,648.
Complete with original knobs, back panel and grill cloth, it features a bright Magic Eye tuning indicator, excellent sound quality and ALL-ORIGINAL Philips Eindhoven Miniwatt tubes, ECH81, EBF89, ECC83, EL84, EM84 and EX80 installed. A few cabinet screws and labeling for upper pushbuttons are missing. Cord is supple and intact.
Tested for several hours on our bench and produced no hum. Made in Holland, it receives AM (MW) and 5 Shortwave (SW / UHF) bands; accepts mono ceramic phono input, has tape output based on input selection and taps for external speaker. Pushbutton tone for high-pass, mid-range, low-pass, and flat override.
Wood veneer cabinet waxed with Howards. Inside treated with tung oil.
Major issues noted and mitigations: loose condenser mount repaired only to stabilize it on the chassis. Broken condenser ground re-soldered. Shorting condenser fins were repositioned to function across the AM band. No ability to fully test shortwave; however, we were able to receive carriers through all ranges.
