CIRCA 1851-1872, US ARMY, FIRST SERGEANT, INFANTRY, CHEVRON, WOOL

 

The chevrons are individual strips of blue wool sewn onto a dark blue quarter inner circle. A complete unissued, unused chevron with two moth nips. This type of construction was used past 1872, but post 1872 construction was with chain stitching rather than individual strips of wool cloth.
