At 3 billion years

old Lewisian Gneiss is one of the oldest rocks in

the world and the oldest in the UK. This Gneiss

is collected from the Isles of Lewis, Harris, Skye

and Mull, and also found on mainland North West

Scotland.

The Lewisian Gneiss

complex is a mixture of many minerals

including Quartz, Feldspar and Epidote with a rich

history of volcanic and metamorphic events.
