Calcite is a carbonate mineral and the most stable polymorph of calcium carbonate. Calcite is a common constituent of sedimentary rocks, limestone in particular, much of which is formed from the shells of dead marine organisms. Approximately 10% of sedimentary rock is limestone.
British Multi-Coloured Calcite, Torbay, Devon, UK. This stunning calcite crystal is rich in colours. The calcite from this location is a mix of Red, White, Pink and Yellow, with occasional Rose Quartz Crystals mixed in. It comes from an old collection which was first mined by the victorians.
