Synopsis:
On the early morning of April 26, 1986, a serious explosion occurred at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant located in Pripyat, Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. Valeri Legasov (played by Jared Harris), as an outstanding Soviet nuclear physicist, became a member of the emergency response team that dealt with the accident, and also became one of the first responsible persons to understand and organize the handling of the accident.
Boris Shelbina (played by Stefan Skarsgaard), Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union and leader of the Soviet Energy Agency, was appointed to lead the accident investigation committee hours after the accident, but the government was not aware at the time that the reactor had exploded. As a senior response official to this unprecedented man-made disaster, he found himself trapped in political system problems and had to face the constantly increasing number of casualties in this nuclear disaster.
Soviet nuclear physicist Urana Homuk (played by Emily Watson) is dedicated to investigating the truth behind the Chernobyl accident, in order to prevent similar incidents from happening again in the future. But during the investigation, she had an unexpected conflict with someone who wanted to bury a terrible secret, and she had to risk losing her freedom and even her life for the truth
