About the artist:
Alex Ross is one of the most popular artists working in comics today. His Marvels and Kingdom Come mini-series were both groundbreaking artistic achievements, winning top praise from collectors and industry professionals alike.
Born in Portland, Oregon and raised in Lubbock, Texas Ross graduated from the American Academy of Art in Chicago, Illinois. He sites George Pérez and Bernie Wrightson as influences but also Andrew Loomis and Norman Rockwell. The influence of the latter two artists realistic style can clearly be seen in Ross' paintings.
His first published work appeared in Terminator: The Burning Earth released by NOW Comics. And after Marvels and Kingdom Come he painted the excellent series of DC Treasury Sized comics, including Superman: Peace On Earth, Batman: War on Crime, Wonder Woman: Spirit of Truth, Shazam: Power of Hope, and JLA: Liberty & Justice.
Ross' other work includes Astro City, Uncle Sam, and several other projects including work for the Warner Brothers Studio Store, TV Guide (Smallville), and the Oscars. He is currently providing covers for several of Dynamite Entertainment titles, including their relaunch of The Shadow.
Ross has won the Will Eisner Award, the National Cartoonists Society Comic Book Award and, according to the Comics Buyer's Guide Senior Editor Maggie Thompson, the CBG's Fan Awards category of Favorite Painter was simply retired due to Ross' domination of the category, Ross having won the award seven years in a row.
