Vintage Postcard - Key West, Florida, Dry Tortugas and Fort Jefferson, Gulf of Mexico

THE DRY TORTUGAS AND FORT JEFFERSON lie in the blue-green

waters of the Gulf of Mexico, seventy miles due west of Key West. This is a fun trip. During the Civil War, the fort was used by the North as a military prison for captured deserters.

It also held Dr. Samuel Mud, who was convicted of complicity in the assassination of President Lincoln in 1865.
