This is for an exceptional vertical night time landscape in the Hudson River School style circa 1850. This is in excellent condition. It does not appear to be signed. The frame is damaged as shown.
The size suggests that this could be what is called a "study" which is an artists' initial composition before committing to a much larger piece. The photos were done with a few different types of lighting to show the exceptional tones and brush work. This was done by a true master. This is from a time when artists only worked in natural light. Older paintings like this present better in a bright room or with a dedicated art lamp attached to the top of the frame.
*For those who are new to fine art note that all of the famous 'brand name' painters are just that, brand names. They have all been hyped to a great extent. Fine original paintings like this one are actually very affordable. This is what fine art actually costs. The majority of vintage original artworks are done by great old masters who were never household names. Over time they all increase in value so just buy what you like.
