In the 1940s, Parker revolutionized the Fountain Pen industry by creating a quick drying "51" ink and a "51" pen made to accommodate the high velocity ink. The point of the pen contained a 14K gold tube within a tapered guard to protect the point against damage and fingers against ink stains.
