Bing & Grondahl Christmas Plate 1960

Title: Christmas in Copenhagen

Designed by:  Kjeld Bonfils

Excellent Condition, Rare! There is a tiny scratch on the upper left. 1/4" or less. Really had to look for it.

Features beautiful Osterlars Kirke (located on the island of Bornholm Denmark) scene with gorgeous blue painting.

Bing & Grøndahl made the first Christmas plate in the world. It was also the first plate to be made using the innovative relief painting method. Up until this time, commemorative plates made by Royal Copenhagen were produced using stencils, dabbing the paint on to get the design. Each of the new-style plates is produced for only one year, after which the factory destroys the remaining molds. This keeps the plates interesting, highly collectible, and impossible to reproduce. Throughout the years, many other factories have attempted to produce comparable commemorative plates, but only Bing & Grøndahl and Royal Copenhagen have managed to keep their series running without interruption.  Bing & Grøndahl's Christmas Plates measures 7” in diameter.  This one is a tad bigger, maybe 7 1/16", than my other plates.
