This double union case contains 6th plate ambrotypes of a married couple identified as Cornelius I. Haring, born September 29, 1790, and Sophia Demarest, born April 2, 1797.
Cornelius Isaac Haring of Tappan was baptized on December 1, 1790. He married Sophia Haring nee Demarest on August 8, 1814 at the age of 23. They joined the Tappan church on April 14, 1821. Together they had 6 children. Cornelius died on January 16, 1864, and Sophia died on September 9, 1861. They are buried in Nanuet, NY.
The antique thermoplastic case features a beautiful relief of a mother embracing her child in a field with their dog. The depiction is entitled The Faithful Hound and is on both sides of the case. The case measures 3.5" x 4" x 3/4" and was produced by the Littlefield, Parsons, and Co. in 1858. It is in very nice condition with a just a few dings on some corners.
