Description
Mr. Clarence L.Thompson was born in New York in the year of 1883 and built his fortune on various endeavors, mainly shipping, and ship building. This archive contains family photographs that range from the 1870’s to the 1940’s. There are two striking imperial sized albumen photographs that measure 12’ x 15 of family members in addition to many fine images that were photographed by some of New York City’s finest photographers. The family was eclectic, artistic and wealthy which is evident. There are also a good number of real photo postcards showing Clarence Thompson’s custom made yacht in addition to other subjects. The family spent their winters in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and some of the material reflects this lifestyle of famous & fortunate before the stock market crashed in 1929. In conclusion the archive of Mr. Clarence L. Thompson tells a rich story before it all came tumbling down on Wall Street.
