Here is a lovely vintage 1960's Sawyer's View-Master Model G. This was the last model in the Sawyer's Line just prior to the GAF takeover. Light weight plastic version (as opposed to previous Bakelite models). Beige, fully functional with a good clean image.
INTERESTING FACTOID: The Sawyer's plant was located in my actual backyard in a little town called Progress, Oregon. We all grew up thinking it was great that such a big international company was right there and we were proud of them! But later, Sawyers, GAF, and Mattel (which was the final owner) were taken to the woodshed by the EPA for horrendous ground water pollution discovered in the 80's: trichloroethylene (TCE) concentrations were found to be as high as 1,670 micrograms per liter μg/L (the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency maximum contaminant level is 5 μg/L.). Lawsuits abounded for decades after the plant was shuttered. Cancer of many varieties was the big issue.

I entered College in 1965 and it doesn't get any more "Sixties" than that. As today is the era of technology and instant connection, the 60's were a time of social consciousness and mind expansion. When asked which era people would most like to live in, the 60's Summer of Love is the most popular destination. But, it's not coming back, and it doesn't have to, because it already thoroughly informs and drives the culture we are living today! So, just remember the next time you are tempted to say "Okay, Boomer..." to kiss off someone who looks old: The 60's were our gift to all you wanna-be hippies and hipsters out there! If you'd like some relics and artifacts from that very busy decade you will always find some right here at Portland Pandemonium's The 60's Were Groovy Shop:
