"Rule, Britannia!". "Rule, Britannia!" is a British patriotic song, originating from the poem "Rule, Britannia" by James Thomson and set to music by Thomas Arne in 1740.

Originally written in 1972, a year before Britain joined the European Union (then the European Communities), Daphne Du Maurier's 'Rule Britannia' imagines a future world in which there is a referendum on EU membership and Britain indeed withdraws and thus strikes up a 'special relationship' with the USA, which becomes a unified state known as 'USUK'.

"Dame" Daphne du Maurier, (Lady Browning) (May, 1907 – April, 1989) was an English author and playwright. She is generally classed as a romantic novelist. Her stories have been described as "moody and resonant" with overtones of the paranormal.
