About 20 years ago I bought two boxes of these rabbit with basket candle holders from an import store, with 4 of each color. Since I really only wanted two of each color, I switched them out to 2 of two colors in each box, and then donated the other box to a thrift shop. These are so cute, and I love the colors! However, I never got around to using them. They have remained in the box for all this time, and have only been taken out to look at occasionally, and to take these photos.
These are reproductions of a reproduction of the original Rabbit with Basket, which was made by Richards & Hartley Glass Company in the mid-1880s. The first reproduction was made by L. G Wright Glass Company in the 1960s. These are reproductions of the Wright version, and they were made in the early 2000s, the box does not tell where they were made. The color is a coating over clear glass. It feels sort of plastic-like. (With time or any scrubbing, it will flake off.) So carefully use warm water and soap or just a damp cloth to clean them, to make the color last longer.
Inside the candle cup are 3 ridges, to help secure a candle. But since the basket is cone shaped, a standard taper candle doesn't stand very well -- it would need additional support, such as wax or some sort of flexible putty. However, a tealight rests perfectly on the top end of the ridges, and I think that is how it truly was designed to be used. You can also do a votive candle since they usually are the same diameter as a tealight, only taller.
The candle holder is 3 1/4 inches tall. The total width is 2 5/8 inches, which includes the rabbit's head. The inside diameter of the candle area is 1 5/8 inches. They each weigh about 6 ounces. I show one with a tealight in it in my last two photos of the lavender rabbits. (The tealight is not included.)
