Pepys is one, Greville the other.... So plain was [Greville's] meaning that hitherto many of his pages have been withheld from the public. In these volumes, there will be found for the first time, those passages thus suppressed and Greville is permitted to tell the whole of the truth as he saw it.Greville was the grandson of the Duke of Portland, who sat twice as Prime Minister. His career was Clerk of the Privy Council under King George IV, and Queen Victoria.
