For your consideration is a wax painting done by Frank Norton Dorland.  Mr Dorland was born in 1914 in Peru Nebraska.  He studied in California and lived in San Diego until 1959.  He is an American Art Conservator and educator.  He was formally engaged in authentication and classification of art objects.

This painting is done on a hard board and is 18" x 24" and titled "Egg Plant on a Holiday".  It has been framed at one point and there is some marks left from that frame about 9/16" in from the edges.  The back has a sticker on it with his name, title and location as San Diego, California.

Wax painting is done by mixing pigments with hot liquid was and applying it to a surface and then fusing the layers with a heat tool.  Wax is a beeswax and a hardener like dammar resin or carnauba wax.  You have to warm/heat the paint so it is not hard as room temperature hardens it.  It is applied with a stiff brush or metal tools on a hard surface like wood or canvas.  Once painted you have to heat it up again to form a uniform film from the brush strokes.  You can apply many layers.
