Offered is a vintage, hand-painted, Chinese style, famille rose, bone china ginger jar made in Japan. This pattern is referred to as the Canton style: intricate designs which include birds, butterflies, flowers, and greenery. The double paneled motif of a bird and butterfly in flight over a bed of flowers is in soft hues of pink, green, blue and yellow with accents of gold. Smaller panels of birds, roses and buds encircle the top of the jar. The lid is beautifully decorated with more flowers and winged insects. This piece is in very good to excellent vintage condition. There are no chips, cracks or repairs. There is some paint wear to the lid. Please see photos for detail on condition and quality. This ginger jar was made in Japan and decorated in Hong Kong. It dates from the mid to later 20th century (1960's-1970's). It is stamped on the base, “Japan  Decorated in Hong Kong ”.
