Brand new factory sealed restored director's cut on both blu-ray and dvd for the first time ever. Out Of Print (OOP) in all formats and no longer being produced.

While this clocks in at 10 minutes shorter than the old VCI/United Home Video vhs tape, this transfer restores Curtis Harrington's intended cut, finally replacing that basterdized version prepared for television without his participation.

In that bowdlerized variant producer Steve Krantz cut entire scenes, trimmed the violence, and reshot a reel's worth of new footage, padding the original run time with an adultery sub-plot. That was the only version seen in over 25 years.

Prior to this cut-n-paste job, the original cut had enjoyed a profitable theatrical run! In fact RUBY was the most successfull independently produced horror film of all time... until 'Halloween' the following year.

Set in Florida in 1951, RUBY attends the mysterious deaths of a group of aging drive-in workers, the first of which is found strangled by film in a projection booth. Rather than call the cops, Ruby (Piper Laurie) prefers to consign the corpse to a nearby swamp.

A Hollywood has-been and former gun moll still mourning the murder of her Latin lover Nicky, Ruby has her reasons for keeping mum--not the least of which is the escalating weirdness of her 16-year-old daughter Leslie, mute since her birth the night of Nicky's shooting by the very gunmen who now work menial jobs at the drive-in.

With the old gang being dispatched in grisly fashion and Leslie exhibiting telekinetic abilities, Ruby is forced to conclude that "maybe Nicky's coming back to claim what's his".

VCI is to be commended for upgrading a key title, the image is much brighter and more colorful than its previous incarnation.
