Wonderful set of antique Staffordshire soft paste cups and saucers are hand painted in the green Sprig Ware pattern. The cups are approx. 2 1/2" tall (2 5/8" at the handle), 4" in diameter, and the saucers are 5 3/4". There is no makers' mark as is usually the case, but several saucers are hand numbered 214. Most of the imperfections in this set are from manufacturing---some brownish spots of grit in the glaze (2 larger dark spots in the glaze on the back of one saucer are shown); a cup and a saucer have a flake under glaze; and one cup has 2 small firing separations at the rim. Beyond that, they show normal signs of use, with a few very small chips in the unglazed bottom rims of the saucers, and one tiny ding on the rim of another saucer. Incredible to find a set of Sprig Ware cups and saucers this large, even more so in this condition for their age.
