Editor of The High Point Enterprise, J.J. Farriss, published a series of booklets beginning in 1896 which documented early business and manufacturing history. The booklets also contain photographs of people, factories, and street scenes.
- High Point In Word and Picture An Historical and Descriptive Sketch of High Point N.C., The furniture center of the South. by J.J. Farriss. Enterprise Printing Company. 6 1/4 by 10 1/2 inches, 160 pages. Undated but refers to the upcoming`1910 census and quotes a 1908 census so ca. 1909. Farriss(1865-1923) was the editor for the High Point Enterprise from 1888-1918, and he was the city's biggest booster and instrumental on starting the High point Furniture Market. This book shows his boosterism in full display- it's a glowing description of the city, its industry, banks, schools, leaders and elegant residences. There's information on individual industries and businesses, and banks, and lots of photos of streets, municipal buildings, police and firemen, leaders of the community and their grand homes.
