American historical drama based on the life of Olympic athlete and Christian missionary Eric Liddell (Joseph Fiennes). Born in China to Scottish parents, Liddell went on to have a successful sporting career in both rugby and athletics, while also spreading word of his Christian faith. Leaving his own family behind to return to China pre-World War II to carry out his missionary work, Liddell finds himself taken captive as a Japanese prisoner of war. Facing the trials and hardships that the camp lays before him, Liddell continues to reassure those around him and uses his faith to endure the dark times ahead.
