Description
This is a really nice HBT short shank bit made by Myler Toklat, with a 5 inch wide MB 36 mullen forward tilt barrel mouthpiece. This very lightly used bit in well maintained condition with light rusting to the mouthpiece. The MB 36 is a Myler alternative to the traditional mullen, but it has a wide low port that allows the tongue to pass under it comfortably. The port is 1 inch high, and tilted forward at a 45º angle, allowing just enough room for the horse’s tongue to elevate slightly and swallow, but not high enough for palate pressure. When the reins are engaged, the MB 36 applies pressure primarily to the bars and lips, but also applies tongue pressure because of the forward tilt. The HBT shanks measure 5-1/2 inches long with a 2 inch long purchase for a 2.75 to 1 leverage ratio. The mouthpiece is Myler's MB 36 mullen forward tilt barrel mouthpiece and measures 5 inches wide by 3/8 diameter.
The HBT shank has the patented Independent Swivel Cheek, where the purchase, mouthpiece and shank all move independently of each other. The purchase is slightly angled away from the cheek to avoid rubbing. It has an indirect curb rein action designed to be used with a curb strap which attaches to the purchase. The HBT shank uses the combination of the fixed cheek and fixed rein to apply pressure to the mouth, chin and poll.
