Description

This is a really nice HBT short shank bit made by Myler Toklat, with a 5 inch wide MB 36 mullen forward tilt barrel mouthpiece.  This very lightly used bit in well maintained condition with light rusting to the mouthpiece.  The MB 36 is a Myler alternative to the traditional mullen, but it has a wide low port that allows the tongue to pass under it comfortably.  The port is 1 inch high, and tilted forward at a 45º angle, allowing just enough room for the horse’s tongue to elevate slightly and swallow, but not high enough for palate pressure.  When the reins are engaged, the MB 36 applies pressure primarily to the bars and lips, but also applies tongue pressure because of the forward tilt.  The HBT shanks measure 5-1/2 inches long with a 2 inch long purchase for a 2.75 to 1 leverage ratio.  The mouthpiece is Myler's MB 36 mullen forward tilt barrel mouthpiece and measures 5 inches wide by 3/8 diameter.
The HBT shank has the patented Independent Swivel Cheek, where the purchase, mouthpiece and shank all move independently of each other.  The purchase is slightly angled away from the cheek to avoid rubbing.  It has an indirect curb rein action designed to be used with a curb strap which attaches to the purchase.  The HBT shank uses the combination of the fixed cheek and fixed rein to apply pressure to the mouth, chin and poll.

This mouthpiece is made of polished sweet iron which naturally oxidizes or rusts.  Harmless to horses, it has a sweet taste and promotes salivation.  This mouthpiece offers a variety of pressure points to make the horse as soft as possible.   This mouthpiece is made of sweet iron with inlaid copper on the bars to encourage lightness and salivation.  The MB 36 barrel port is the one of the milder Myler mouthpieces in terms of tongue pressure and considered to be somewhere between level 2 and level 3.  This mouthpiece is a step up in tongue relief from Level 2, but because the port is low, it does not offer as much tongue relief as other Level 2-3 mouthpieces with slightly higher ports because the tongue is still somewhat restricted.  The MB 36 mouthpiece is similar to the MB 06, except that it is ¼ inch taller and the port is tilted forward. The port allows room for the tongue to fit under the bit and makes swallowing easier applying little to no tongue pressure, working primarily on the bars, lips, chin and poll and the barrel mouthpiece assists in lifting each shoulder independently.  This mouthpiece has Independent Side Movement and weighs 12 ounces so it is a very nice light bit.
