Super Sonic is the Super State of Sonic the Hedgehog that can be activated through collecting all seven Chaos Emeralds and usually fifty rings. In the 2D games, he plays like Sonic, but can jump higher, is faster, and is invincible. Nevertheless, he could still drown, die by falling off screen or get crushed against a wall. In his first appearance, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Super Sonic bears no impact on the game's story, but would give the good ending if achieved. 

However, from Sonic 3 & Knuckles onward, he usually has a greater impact on the story and is often part of the ending, or secret ending. Sonic also has an extended form of Super Sonic known as Hyper Sonic, which was only used in Sonic 3 and Knuckles. As Super Sonic, Sonic gains the ability to fly and is virtually invulnerable to all harm, except for the attacks from the most powerful characters in the series such as Solaris, Perfect Dark Gaia and the Egg Salamander.

All of his innate strengths and abilities are also enhanced far beyond his normal ones in this form; his trademark speed has been increased tremendously, nearing the speed of light, he can jump much higher than usual, and he has improved reflexes to match his improved movements. His physical strength is also increased vastly, allowing him to smash through large robots, barriers and Dr. Eggman’s space armada with ease as shown in Sonic Unleashed, break enormous metal restraints without effort, and even stun Perfect Dark Gaia whose size is on a par with a continent. 

Patrick Spaziante, or "Spaz" as he is commonly known, is a comic book artist known for his work for Archie Comics, in particular his interior pencil and cover work for Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic X and Sonic Universe. He is also known for his work on Dreamwave Productions' Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Nickelodeon Comics' Avatar: The Last Airbender and Marvel Comics' Muties, as well as his illustration work for Simon & Schuster's children books.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is an upcoming adventure film based on the video game franchise Sonic the Hedgehog published by Sega. It is the sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog (2020), with Jeff Fowler directing from a script written by Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington, based on the story created by Casey and Miller. The cast includes Ben Schwartz, Colleen O'Shaughnessey, Idris Elba, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, Shemar Moore, and Jim Carrey. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 follows Sonic and Tails as they try to prevent Doctor Eggman and Knuckles the Echidna from finding the Master Emerald.

Following the success of the first film, and with plans for a film series, Paramount Pictures announced the sequel in May 2020. Filming took place from March to June 2021 in Vancouver and Hawaii. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is scheduled for theatrical release in the United States on April 8, 2022, by Paramount Pictures in association with Sega Sammy Group.

In February 2022, Sega and Paramount confirmed that a third film, alongside a Knuckles spin-off series, are in development. The Knuckles spin-off would feature Elba reprising his role, releasing in 2023 on Paramount's streaming service, Paramount+.
