Kokeshi Doll Old Mickey Mouse Disney Japan Hand Carved Painted.

Condition is "Used". Wear consistent with age and use. Some paint loss on body. Small black mark on face. Head post feels loose due to glue break down over the last 50 years. I have not done any repairs to figure.

This is an early surviving example of "Mickey Mouse"- a Disney kokeshi hand carved and hand painted doll from Japan from about 1970. Original “Made in Japan” label on bottom.

Japan’s Kokeshi Dolls. Kokeshi are Japanese dolls originally from northern Japan. They are handmade from wood, have a simple trunk and an enlarged head with a few thin, painted lines to define the face. One characteristic of kokeshi dolls is their lack of arms or legs. They were originally a toy for a small child and generally have thin terminal areas. Today they are widely collected and variations are numerous.
