1968 Signed & Original Ruth Ensign 8/10 “Red Omen” Collograph Etching Art Print

Ruth Singley Ensign was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1923. She was a graduate of the Tyler School of Fine Arts, Temple University, Philadelphia, with a B.F.A, and B.S. in Education, both with honors, and an M.F.A. She taught as an adjunct at VCU School of Art, Virginia State University, Randolph Macon, Ashland, and Union-PSCE. She was an artist in residence for Henrico and Hanover Public Schools and demonstrated her print making at colleges and universities, including Eckerd College and Northwestern University.
Her work was as been exhibited in galleries and museums in the East from New York to Florida and Alabama, including the Philadelphia Print Club, the Library of Congress Print Exhibition, the Smithson Institution, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Women’s International Exhibition and Slide Show of 1975-76, the Gallery of Contemporary Art of Winston-Salem, N.C., and elsewhere.
She was the recipient of numerous awards and purchase prizes in both painting and printmaking. She was represented in many private collections, including the Philip Morris Corp., the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, the National Institutes of Health, Colonial Williamsburg Motor Lodge, and a number of museums, banks and universities. She was the subject of “Nature’s Poet of Vision”, a film produced by an independent filmmaker. Ruth Ensign was one of the original members of the Richmond Artist Association and one of its earliest presidents. Ruth died on Nov. 6, 2008.
