Aged Indian Dies at Home of Son at Chewey
Nick Comingdeer, ninety-one-year old Cherokee Indian, who has lived his entire life in this part of the state, died at the home of his son, John Comingdeer, last Wednesday after a short illness. Mr. Comingdeer was born about seven miles northeast of Tahlequah on the Illinois river. Several years later he moved to an adjoining farm. At the time of his death, he was living with his son in the Chewey community. He was an active farmer, following that employment until only a few years ago when his health began to fail.
Comingdeer was born January 1, 1849. He married Peggy Teak and had three children, all of the surviving. They are Mrs. Mollie Terripan and Mrs. Rachel Bigfeather, both of Tahlequah, and John Comingdeer of Chewey. His wife died several years ago. Others surviving are four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Excellent original early family and/or town genealogy, history, antique, collectible heirloom and/or ephemera.
