Equipment Radio Rope and Wire Aviation History Paperback Book John D. Ryan 1966
(America Soaring Handbook #8)
This is the second equipment chapter of the AMERICAN SOARING HANDBOOK.
It discusses airborne and ground radio installations and the selection, use and handling of tow ropes and wires.
This chapter covers radio communications as used in soaring activities.
Radio navigation equipment has little application in soaring and information on this is not included.
Basic information on the communications and navigation aspects of aircraft radio is avail- able in the Pilots Radio Handbook. This book, written by the Federal Aviation Agency, is available from the Superintendent of Documents, U. S. Government Printing Office, Washington 25, D.C.
The installation of radio equipment in a sailplane and in the retrieve car involves considerable expense.
The soaring pilot should carefully consider the advantages to be gained by making this investment, the problems involved, and the overall usefulness of the installation, before making a decision to purchase this equipment.
