Weird Henry Berg Children's Hardcover Book by Sarah Sargent Crown Publisher 1980
“Vincent's eyes lit up and glowed. He opened his mouth. A small flame, like a flower petal, licked along his teeth, just for a second. Henry drew back, startled ..."
A solitary boy with an active imagination, Henry Berg spends his best times alone, dreaming himself into worlds where he is at peace and no one thinks of him as weird.
His life changes abruptly when Grandfather Berg's antique egg, found in an embroidered pouch long ago, hatches into a lizard right on Henry's bureau.
At first Vincent is the perfect companion, but before long his glowing eyes and winglike shoulders attract far too much attention, and Henry must protect his pet against a university psychologist, an elderly eccentric called Millie, and a curiously determined green creature who flies at night.
Then a truly alarming chain of events reveals Vincent's true identity, and Henry Berg is forced to make the most difficult decision of his twelve-year-old life.
