Vintage Museum Jewelry Signed Alva Studios - Gold Toned Ancient Mayan Flying Fish Brooch Alfred Wolkenberg founded Alva In 1948 in Long Island City, Queens, NYC. He employed many different artists and specialized in making MUSEUM JEWELRY REPRODUCTIONS. These ancient museum jewelry reproductions were sold around the world in museum shops. No doubt $$$. This stylized image of an ancient Meso-American Mayan FLYING Fish(?) is in excellent condition. It measures 2 3/8” x 1 7/8”. Its primitive brutalist style draws attention with its prominent eye looking at you. Its scales and fins are crude but prominent. It is a good catch at 19.3 grams. The crude top fin, (no doubt) reflects the effect of time from when it was unearthed. Its brutalist neo modern appeal is timeless. The ALVA STUDIO hallmark is impressed in small letters on the reverse. The antique gold appearance is striking. The clasp and pin are functional as they should . DON’T let this catch get away! This was part of the estate of an avid collector / dealer and purchased in the 1970’s. This statement piece makes a great Mother’s Day gift or for the fisherman’s wife, or any collector of ancient museum jewelry. It appears to have been unworn.
