Old Cusco / Peruvian Sterling 18kt Gold Vintage Cat Brooch

This small pin / brooch may be small 1 1/2” x 1 1/4” but it relates to a rich Peruvian / Inca cultural history.

CUSCO was the center of the INCA world.

Everything was adorned with gold, silver and gems.  Everyone was adorned with these metals.

Gold and silver was valued for mystical reasons, not monetary.

All this came to an end with the plundering of this RICH civilization by the Spanish Conquistadors. They stole the culture.

Peruvian jewelry has always been known to incorporate gold and silver.

This Idealized 18KT gold cat / feline is sitting in the middle of a hammered sterling irregular and unique concave shaped moon like sterling backing.

On the reverse in vertical order from top to bottom is stamped.

The brooch weighs 8.1 grams

It shows little or no wear and was acquired in the late 1960’s by an avid collector/dealer.  Members of the family have supplied this information.

Recently a similar Cat / Feline image was discovered on the famous Nazca plains and dates back 2000 years. The Silver was the sweat of the Gods and the Gold, the tears of the Moon.

The pin is superbly executed and its Crescent Moon shaped silver background is very symbolic and has significant Cultural meaning.

It comes in a jewelry box and is suitable for a Mothers Day gift for that special Peruvian mother, or just lover of South American history.

It’s unique shape and superbly detailed gold Feline image make this a true statement piece.

This piece has no peer on the web.
