Sandys, George, A RELATION OF A JOURNEY BEGUN AN: Dom: 1610. London: Ro Allot, 1632.  3rd ed., rebacked mottled calf hardcover, 8vo (10.5x7”), Very good/n.a., [4], 309pp. A2, B-2D6 (-2D6 a blank, [Complete]).  Four books printed in one, engraved pictorial title page: folding panoramic plate, beautiful double-page engraved map; 2 plates and 42 engraved cuts in text, multiple floriated initials, head and tail vignettes, re-backed mottled calf w/raised bands, morocco spine label, spine lettering in gilt.

A wonderful and historically significant accounting of a journey taken through Egypt, the Holy Land, Greece, what is now known as Italy and many others along the way. A substantial addition to geography, ethnology and social constructs of the early seventeenth century. Book plate and small ink previous owner’s signature on front paste-down, wear to boards, front hinge gently cracked, occasional soiling, foxing and creasing to pages, two small holes near gutter of last page probably caused by insect predation. Overall, a spectacular specimen, a very distinctive and marvelous Capture of Tyme!
