Flagship of the South Atlantic blockading squadron under captain Samuel DuPont in the Civil War, the Wabash had been launched in 1855 but not commissioned until 1861. She was a 3274 ton ship with a maximum speed of 9 knots under power. The original painting by Edward Moran is the property of the US Naval Academy museum.
