Commodore Edward Preble, 1761 - 1807. In 1804 from his flagship, the Constitution, Commodore Preble led the American fleet in successful action against Tripoli. The officers trained under him at that time, often referred to as preble's boys, were among the outstanding naval leaders in the war of 1812.
