One of the first battleships of the US Navy, the Iowa took part in the Battle of Santiago of the Spanish American War and is still remembered by officers who made midshipman cruises in her during the pre World War I years. The original painting by C. E. Sargent was presented to the US Naval Academy by Mr. R. P. Mc Clenahan.
