Congratulations! You have discovered that the Genelec 4020/4020B sounds identical to the corresponding models 8020/8020B (and G2) Professional Studio Reference Monitors.
And since they are used in AV Pro Installation market, they come up for sale used much more often than those models. This makes them an amazing option for budget conscious consumers who want the recording studio quality offered by Genelec active speakers.
You can frequently find 4020B speakers for under $225 a pair. However, there are typically a few challenges you will face using these speakers in a home scenario.
This package can help. It has everything you need to connect one pair (2) of 4020 or 4020B speakers to a variety of devices:
Problem 1: Balanced pro-level audio inputs.
If you are using the 4020B in place of the G2 speaker, the fact the 4020B does not have unbalanced consumer type RCA inputs, could be a problem. Furthermore, not all receivers have the appropriate line outputs. There are many possible solutions to these problems, but many can be expensive.
My Solution:
My cables and adapters allow you to feed a pair of Genelec 4020 or 4020B speakers from the headphone jack of your device. For stereo applications, this is an ideal budget-conscious solution. This sale includes the necessary cables to connect your 4020B speakers directly to the headphone jack of most any audio device. We include a 1/4” to 3.5mm adapter to accommodate connections to both popular styles of headphone jacks.
Or you can disconnect the headphone adapters and connect to the RCA preamp-out or line out jacks of your receiver using the two 6 foot RCA cables supplied.
Problem 2: No Isopods (R)
New speakers come with Genelec’s clever Isopod (R) feet to reduce resonance and stabilize the speakers. But rarely are these feet present with used speakers. Since the bottoms of these speakers are rounded, a solution providing stability and audio isolation is required.
Solution:
The Iso-donut is a rubber toroid that isolates and stabilizes your 4020 speaker. It has felt pads on the bottom to protect your furniture. It provides a degree of tilt adjustment, and provides isolation as with the original feet. Unlike the Isopod (R), the Iso-donut does not attach to the speaker, so don’t lose them!
Problem 3: Audio Connectors
The pro series speakers have multi-pin Phoenix style connectors. Mating connectors are hard to find.
Solution
Our custom Phoenix-to-RCA adapter eliminates the need for special cables. Plug the adapter into the speaker, and it now accepts standard RCA-male plugs (such as the included cables). In effect, this adapter converts your 4020/4020B speaker into a Genelec G2 speaker. We make these adapters right here in the USA.
Problem 4: Power Cords
Used electronics often don't include power cords.
Solution
My kit includes power cords. Rather than the typical 3 or 4 foot cables, I send you 6 foot cables, so even if your speakers are on stands, they will work nicely.
Problem 5: Documentation
Used electronics often don't include users manuals or other data.
Solution
I include the 4020B Operating Manual as well as other information from the manufacturer on how to get the best performance from your speakers.

Qty 2 RCA to Phoenix adapters.
These convert the unusual Phoenix connector to a standard RCA-female jack, as used on standard consumer equipment.
Qty 2 RCA to RCA 6 foot cable. Foil (100%) shielded.
Use these to connect from the adapter on the speaker, to the standard Preamp or Line outputs of a receiver. Or use together with the following item to connect to your headphone jack.
Qty 1: 3.5mm to RCA Y-adapter cable with gold plated RCA connectors.
Using this adapter, and the above cable, you can connect your phone*, tablet, MP3 player, or most other devices, directly to the speakers, just so long as they have the common 3.5mmm stereo headphone output used on standard wired headphones.

Allows connections to 1/4” headphone jacks as used on most receivers and pro equipment.

These keep the speakers stable and isolated from the surface.

*If your phone has a case with a non-standard access hole (e.g. so-called "3.5mm slim" stereo connector) you will need to remove it to connect this cable.
NOTE: I have another product, under development, that allows you to convert your 4020B speakers to safely accept connections from your receiver's regular speaker outputs, by reducing the audio level. It mounts to the back of the speaker and allows connection using regular speaker cables. If your receiver doesn't have line outputs, and you prefer not to use your headphone jack, this gives another option. Also ideal when doing surround sound, if your receiver doesn't have line outputs. This product will also include the power cords, iso-donuts and manuals. Contact me, using the contact seller link, to check on status of this product. NOTE: The seller is not connected with Genelec Corporation in any way.
NOTE: These accessories have been tested with the 4020 and 4020B. The 4020C has a different type of Phoenix connectors.

TIP: Make sure the speakers you buy are rated for 120 Volts for use in the USA. The older Genelec speakers do not have voltage adjustment.
