Terrific houseplant that never fails to be very showy. It needs temps 75+ degrees to thrive outdoors. Originally it is native from Mozambique, Madagascar and other islands located in the Indian Ocean. Ours are grown fresh in South Florida, USA. This member of the Asparagaceae family is a slow-growing evergreen perennial plant grown outdoors in a tropical setting. The plant is usually kept as a houseplant in North America, where it is only winter hardy in USDA hardiness zones 10B through 12. Florist use Song of India in most plant arrangements because of the star shaped leaves and bright colors that contrast the other plants. Song of India loves full sun but can also thrive in partial. It tends to like it a bit dry on its roots but loves misting's. To propagate a new plant, just cut the top off and stick it into moist soil or water to root.
