Hopi HEMIS Kachina Doll Katsina Scultpure w Tablita Vintage 1970s HUGE 27" For your consideration is this magnificent vintage hand carved very large Hopi Hemis Kachina doll with tablita, circa 1970s era. This gorgeous kachina doll was hand carved out of top grade cottonwood and hand painted with dyes made from natural materials off the reservation. The colors and details are absolutely amazing! His tablita is crowned with feathers and wheat tassels. He wears a green wool yarn (spruce) ruff around his neck and carries a rattle in one hand and spruce fronds in the other hand. He has yarn around his chest which is decorated with friendship signs, and he has a yarn tied on his wrist and knee. On the other leg is the traditional turtle rattle tied behind his knee. A painted red sash wraps his waist and down his right side. Measures approx 27" tall, including base. It is not hallmarked, as was typical of these older pieces, so we do not know who to attribute this work of art to. Guaranteed to be Native American Hopi made. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Fantastic vintage Hopi HEMIS kachina doll to add to your collection! ** Hemis Katsina appears at the Home-Going (Niman) ceremony in
late summer (July). He is originally from Jemez Pueblo, where he is an
important figure in bringing rain prior to harvest. He is the Katsina
who brings the grown corn to the people, ensuring a good harvest. **
