Enoch Wedgwood Gainsborough Blue Floral 7 Cups, 8 Saucers, Made in England 1957

From my own collection of dishes, these are 7 cups and 8 saucers in the Gainsborough pattern in the blue color from Wedgwood & Co. Ltd. by Enoch Wedgwood.  The cups are marked on the bottom with "Gainsborough, Wedgwood & Co. Ltd., Founded 1835, by Enoch Wedgwood," the unicorn symbol,  and "ENGLAND" is impressed into the surface.  The saucers are marked similarly with "Made in England, 3   57" printed on top the unicorn.   I believe the numbers mean these were made in March 1957.   Enoch Wedgwood was one of the owners of Wedgwood & Co.,  formed in 1860, formerly known as Podmore Walker & Co., which was then renamed Enoch Wedgwood (Tunstall) Ltd. in 1965.  So the assumed date of 3/1957 fits in correctly with the Wedgwood & Co. Ltd. name on the markings, and shows that Enoch was getting his name on the dishes before the company name was changed to his name.  The cups measure 3 3/4 inches in diameter 2 1/4 inches tall at the rim.  The saucers 5 5/8 inches in diameter and 7/8 inch tall at the rim.   They are in excellent condition -- bright and shiny, with no chips cracks, or crazing, and no signs of coffee or tea stains. The cups hold 8 fluid ounces when filled up to the very top. They may have never been used. I know I have not used them while I have owned them.  The cups and saucers are the last of a 39-piece set I had in this pattern, which I bought at an antique store years ago. The cups and saucers will come to you very carefully packed.
