Fifty years ago, this was one of my father's favorite magazines:  he was a do-it-yourselfer, who enjoyed puttering around in his workshop, with ideas he had picked up from the pages of such magazines as POPULAR SCIENCE, MECHANIX ILLUSTRATED, SCIENCE & MECHANICS, and so on.  I'm not sure what he'd have to say about this issue from over 20 years ago, though. . ..
