From Library Journal

This self-help book proposes that pets can combat loneliness in the elderly, mediate conflicts between couples, encourage responsibility in children, aid those in search of self-worth, and more. Focusing on case studies, she shows how they can be the "key to the human's inner self." Simple exercises in each chapter offer specific therapy, while the clear, informal writing style mimics the calming speech of a psychologist but is none the less effective. Two useful appendices, listing resource organizations and service animals for the disabled, are included. Recommended where there is interest. Kimberly E. Megginson, VA Medical Ctr.
