The Military MA-1 Bomber Flight Jacket was designed by the United States Air Force to be a more comfortable and less bulky pilot jacket than the leather flyer jacket they were using. The MA-1 Flight Jacket was first issued about 1949 to the Air Force, Navy pilots and their flight crews. The Bomber Jacket was made to be reversible with an orange lining so that down pilots could be seen. There are 2 inside hand pockets that were made to be used when you reverse the jacket to keep items safe. They make great storage pockets for everyday use. On the arm there is the signature flight jacket pencil/pen holder along with a small zipper pocket for a map or notes. There are hand pockets with a with snap closure flaps that also allow you more storage or for hand warming.
The MA-1 is a comfortable year-round jacket, it has had several modifications through the years, but the basic design remains the same. Although the United States military no longer issues the MA-1, it remains a favorite and has become fashionable worldwide. Customers find that this is a great jacket for cool to cold weather.
The outer shell is made of nylon water repellent fabric with thick poly fiberfill insulation. A zippered front closure with double pull tabs and storm flap offers additional protection from the elements.
