This is for a pair of modern custom made modular L.E.D. license plate light/lens assemblies made to fit all W123 models. While incandescent bulbs are still a good rule for exterior lighting on the W123 the aging and poor output of the stock license plate lighting is an exception to that rule.
At night the rear of a W123 is very dim overall especially next to modern cars. If you take a good look at your stock license plate lights they're barely cutting it after 40+ years of diesel exhaust smoke. They're look even worse next to these clear white 6000k L.E.D.'s. Look at the reflections in the paint and the bumper in the images.
I decided to do something about this issue when a friend told me they got a ticket(warning) for their dim license plate lights. While brand new OE lenses will fix it they cost way too much for what you get. These L.E.D. lens assemblies are completely modern, cost less than half of OE, include the 'lightbulb' and are 10x brighter.
Fitment anomaly: I encountered a very early W123(pre-1980) in which the size of the opening where these are mounted was more narrow by about 1.5mm. If you have an early W123 you might need to work less than 1mm off of each side of the opening with a flat file. This area is completely hidden so it would have zero effect on cosmetics.
