The official start of the "Ten-Year War," this game ranks as one of the biggest upsets in college football history. Ohio State entered the game as the defending national champions and the top-ranked team in the country, with a 22-game winning streak under the direction of head coach Woody Hayes. The Wolverines' rookie head coach Bo Schembechler, who had played and coached under Woody Hayes had one goal when he came to Ann Arbor - to beat Ohio State.

Michigan 31 ∙ Ohio State 23
# 2 Ohio State came to Ann Arbor undefeated and averaging 40ppg, while the Wolverines were mired in a sub-par three loss season. But that didn't stop the Wolverines' Tim Biakabutuka from exploding for 313 yards, dwarfing Heisman Trophy candidate and eventual winner Eddie George's 104 rushing yards for Ohio State.
Disc 3 November 22, 1997
Ann Arbor, MI
Michigan 20 ∙ Ohio State 14
With their first shot at a national championship in 50 years on the line, the Wolverines took it to Ohio State physically right from the kickoff. Michigan's Charles Woodson got into a scuffle early with Ohio State's top receiver David Boston, but it was Woodson's day as he racked up a 37-yard reception at wide receiver, an interception in the end zone at cornerback and a 78-yard punt return for a touchdown. The win propelled the Wolverines to a national championship and Woodson to becoming the first defensive player ever to win the Heisman Trophy.
