Artist MICHAEL:
The artist known as Michael was an American artist active in California during the 1960s-1970s His works can be identified by his very distinctive signature. He usually chose oil on canvas or oil on board or at times, as with this piece, an impasto/palette knife. Although a number of his paintings survive today, Michael himself still remains somewhat of an enigma. Though active in California he may have spent some time in Australia as well.
He often painted in a modern abstracted style, but created whimsical and humorous portraits as well. His best works are serene landscapes, cityscapes and seascapes.
