Wallfahrtskirche Vierzehnheiligen (Pilgrimage Church of 14 Saints) is the subject of this 1990 Rosenthal Christmas Plate, the 17th plate in Rosenthal “Classic Rose” Christmas series which began in 1974 as a continuation of the Rosenthal “Traditional Christmas” series, which ran from 1910 to 1974. Multi-color underglaze hand-painted design on white porcelain, diameter approximately 8.5 inches (22 cm). Pierced foot for hanging wire. Inscription (in gold): WEIHNACHTEN (German for Christmas) 1990. Design by Helmut Drexler. Marked on the back: WEIHNACTSTELLER (Christmas plate), UNTERGLASUR (Underglaze), and HANDGEMALT (Hand-painted). Original Issue Price in 1990 was over $200. The Wallfahrtskirche Vierzehnheiligen (Pilgrimage Church of 14 Saints) was built between 1743 and 1772 and is one of the most important Baroque buildings in Bavaria, with an interior richly decorated in the Rococo style. The Pilgrimage Church is located on the “Camino de Santiago”, the road to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, site of the tomb of Saint James the Apostle.
