Jamaican Burr Gherkin
Cucumis anguria Gherkin
65 days
A rare and unique cucumber relative brought to Jamaica in the 1500s. Still a very popular vegetable in Jamaica today. 1-2? long, light green fruit is covered with soft spine-like bumps Best picked when small and young before seeds are produced. Mild, slightly tangy flavor added with a nice crunch make this a fantastic option raw as well as stir fry, stews and even pickled. Grow as a regular cucumber. Vines are long so trellising may be needed.
Perfect for small or cottage gardens.
