6.25" x 9.5", 308 page hardcover with dustjacket titled ROEMER'S TEXAS 1845-1847 by Dr. Fedinand Roemer/ Texian Press, German-Texan Heritage Society 1983 Reprint/ A reprint of the translation of TEXAS, F. Roemer, Bonn, 1849. With the addition of: Preface to the 1983 Edition by Donna Reeves, Geological Preface, and Index. Accompanied by Roemer's map. From preface of 1983 edition: "In 1846...only few books about Texas were available to the prospective [German immigrant] settlers in their native language, German. The years between 1846 and 1850 saw a predictable increase in the number of immigration guides and descriptions of the land, but probably none was more accurate, nor written in greater or more vivid detail than that of...Roemer, appraising his sojourn to Texas , 1845 to 1847, and published in Bonn in 1849. His work remains today exceptionally good reading, the fresh and youthful narrative of a twenty-eight-year-old scientist about a fresh and youthful land, in his own words, 'a beautiful land of meadows which faces a bright future.'" The original work was translated from the German in 1935 by Oswald Mueller. It was published as a contribution to the Texas Centennial. The 1983 reprint duplicates the 1935 translation exactly.

The book is complete and in VERY GOOD - FINE condition with some overall wear. There is a 3/4" "v" shaped tear along the top edge of the back cover of the dustjacket. On the front free endpaper the book is inscribed by Donna Reeves who wrote the 1983 Preface and also by Irma Goeth Guenther who compiled the Index. (see pictures)
