Vintage original 8 x 10 in. US single-weight glossy photograph from the classic 1930's version of William Shakespeare's, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, released in 1935 by Warner Bros and co-directed by William Dieterle and Max Reinhardt.

The image depicts a playful on-set photograph taken during a break in filming as cast member Anita Louise (as Titania, Queen of the Fairies) whispers "studio gossip" into the ear of cast member James Cagney, seen wearing wearing the head of an ass for his character of Bottom, the Weaver. This photograph was used for publication in a newspaper and affixed to the verso is a portion of the actual newspaper clipping along with a date stamp of OCT 12 1936 (when it was acquired by a newspaper archive). It is in fine- condition as shown with areas of waviness on and around the newspaper clipping and two areas of hand embellishments in white ink above and to the right of Miss Louise..

Provenance: The Hearst Herald Examiner newspaper archive.

Theseus, Duke of Athens, is going to marry Hyppolyta, Queen of the Amazons. Demetrius is engaged with Hermia, but Hermia loves Lysander. Helena loves Demetrius. Oberon and Titania, of the kingdom of fairies, have a slight quarrel about whether or not the boy Titania is raising will join Titania's band or Oberon's, so Oberon tries to get him from her by using some magic. But they're not alone in that forest, as Lysander and Hermia have a rendezvous, and Helena and Demetrius are there, too, as well as some actors who are practicing a play for the ongoing wedding of Theseus and Hippolyta. Due to some misunderstandings by Puck, the whole thing becomes a little bit confused.
