Vintage original 8 x 10 in. US single-weight glossy photograph from the 1930's post-WWI themed drama/romance, THE ROAD BACK, released in 1937 by Universal Pictures and directed by James WhaleThis sequel to Lewis Milestone's All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) was based upon the novel, "Der Weg zurück," also by Erich Maria Remarque, in which German soldiers who survived World War I on the Western Front struggle to adjust to civilian life in the months following the Armistice of November 11, 1918.

The image depicts a close shot of Tjaden (Slim Summerville) with his arms around Angelina (Louise Fazenda), the butcher's daughter. As indicated by a rubber stamp on the verso, this photograph was taken by Hollywood photographer Roman Freulich. It was used for publication in a newspaper and features hand embellishments in white ink around the two actors. Affixed to the verso is the original paper snipe that describes the image as well as a portion of the corresponding image that appeared in a newspaper. It is in very good condition as shown.
